PRECISION
INVESTMENT (LOST WAX) CASTING: PROCESS AND CAPABILITIES
Precision Investment Casting, often still referred to as Lost Wax
Casting, is based upon a form of casting practiced for thousands of
years by artists. It is only however, since the early 1940's that lost
wax casting has existed as a controlled engineering discipline and the
advances in the last ten years in the development of new materials and
techniques have seen Precision Investment Casting become the most
accurate casting process in materials ranging from aluminium alloys to
single crystal super alloys. |
|
1
The investment Casting process starts with the injection of a pattern
wax into a polished die ...
2
The mould is created by coating the pattern with refractory ceramics,
firstly by immersing in a liquid slurry ...
3
The liquid slurry is then followed by coating with a dry stucco. This
process is repeated until the finished shell thickness is acheived ... |
|
4
Following pattern removal, the mould is fired at 1000 ºC and
the moulten metal is poured to create the high definition castings. |
